It’s that time again and the avid bicyclist’s favorite time of the year, Spring. That’s right, Spring is around the corner and everyone’s legs are itching to get the good old revolution feeling back. Garages, storage facilities, front and back doors are all opening with people eager to feel the wind blowing and to hear the click, click of gears changing as they pedal into the great outdoors. We are sure that shops will start to feel the rush of eager customers who realize their bikes have missed some much needed attention or that it may be time to upgrade. As inventories are updated and staff readied here are 5 helpful ideas to keep people rolling:

  1. Sponsor trail cleanups. Help organize groups to get out on your local routes and trails to do the much needed winter clean up. Whether it’s clearing branches or picking up trash it will go a long way to making the ride much more enjoyable for all.
  2. Organize family rides. A great way to get you shop/organization involved within your community. Bike riding is a fun family activity and it is a great way for families with similar likes to get to know each other.
  3. Set-up Networking rides. People just enjoy riding bikes and many enthusiasts in the corporate world only have the opportunity to bike right after work and often ride alone. Create a common meeting place for people who share the joy of biking while balancing work. It’s a great opportunity to network while getting your ride in.
  4. Offer free equipment and safety checks. Make sure people are riding properly maintained bicycles, are aware of the common safety hazards and have the necessary safety equipment.
  5. Get out and ride yourself! Whether it is biking to work, in the woods or in your neighborhood just make the time to get out and ride. It also portrays your passion for the industry you are in and nothing beats stress like a good ride!

Lastly, don’t forget to let others know about all the different cycling events in your region whether or not you sponsor an event or not. There are many avid riders who may want to take their ride to a new level and not realize the opportunities. Speaking from experience, I knew nothing about Mountain Bike racing until I was introduced to my first Novice race by my local shop and it hooked me to bikes forever!
